What is a Raspberry Pi?

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card-sized computer that costs between $5 and $35. It’s available anywhere in the world, and can function as a proper desktop computer or be used to build smart devices. The Pi was originally intended to be a microcomputer to teach children coding. Its scope has been expanded after hobbyists and engineers saw its potential, and it is now one of the most popular technology items in the world. You can expand the Raspberry Pi computer with modules, like adding a camera module or a touchscreen module, to increase the scope of the device.

Workshop on Creative Computing using Scratch on Raspberry Pi

Girish Mudigere: What: 100% free training to build your Computer at Rs 1800

When: Sept 24 Saturday

Time: 10 to 3pm

Venue: Near BIG SBI HAL branch

NO Special Skill needed

Girish Mudigere: Do above roughly ok?

Krishnamurthy: Welcome Subramani – please introduce yourself to this Group

Kollegala Sharma: Not amount. As per discussions, the hardware cost would be around 8000 including monitor.

Girish Mudigere: Usually all have TV SIR

Kollegala Sharma: So let us not mention money. We can say how to create computer for your needs. Not just computer, probably this could be used to create a mm device which is most needed in schools. I have been suggestinv schools with around 40 students per class to invest in a good LCD tv than a projector. Raspberry can transform that to a projection system besides computing.

Yogish: Girish, without monitor it will cost about Rs 4000. Let’s not put price.

Girish Mudigere: Hemant sir purchased around 2000👍🙏

Yogish: Yes, but you need to buy a SD card and sometimes powrsupply

Girish Mudigere: I remove money from DSS …..DS SOCIETY POST

Kollegala Sharma: Yes. Let us not mention price. Secondly, students (especially govt school) may not be able to afford this. So we need to engage schools telling them that this will help them to create their own gadgets including computer n media player at low cost. 👍

Girish Mudigere: 👍🙏

Yogish: Yes, this is multipurpose and multi project card.

+91 9 …….: Hi,  good morning to all. I am happy to join in this group. 🙏

Kollegala Sharma: I look at another opportunity here.  Kiran please note.  Government conducts Inspire competitions across the state. Winners (at taluk levels) also are given Rs. 5000/- as a encouragement.  These students have to present a project.  If a workshop or several workshops across the state in districts can be conducted for only such selected students, we would be redirecting and promoting their creativity towards real gadget creation.  Right now inspire awards are being spent on models which are mainly repetitive and not promoting creativity among students. Hope teachers here agree with me.

Girish Mudigere: 👍🙏

+91 7 ………..: Girish, Yogish, Please Position the workshop like this.

Creative computing is about creativity. Computer science and computing-related fields have long been introduced to young people in a way that is disconnected from their interests and values – emphasizing technical detail over creative potential. Creative computing supports the development of personal connections to computing, by drawing upon creativity, imagination, and interests.  Creative computing is about empowerment. Many young people with access to computers participate as consumers, rather than designers or creators. Creative computing emphasises the knowledge, practices, and fundamental literacies that young people need to create the types of dynamic and interactive computational media that they enjoy in

their daily lives.! Raspberry Pi provides an affordable platform to teach and learn Creative computing concepts among many other things.

Krishnamurthy: What is the ideal age group to be trained ?

Kollegala Sharma: Yes. Kiran. We can look at organizing these workshops in diriving creativity in students.  One question is affordability. I wont expect CSRs to provide kits to every student or school.  But we can utilize the funds that are alreeady being spent by the government and schools on Inspire awards to do this. KM Sir I am beyond the ideal age group 🙂

Mohammed Syed: KM Sir , I am a senior citizen student.

Kollegala Sharma: 12-18 is what I propose.  They need to be guided on what is creativity.  Problem identification and creative solution. And then using raspberry or other tools to find solutions. The low cost computing provided by Raspberry is very versatile to be adapted to several issues.

Lalit Prasad CS: I agree on using inspire award funds and also lobby at state level Education department for it, if need be…

Krishnamurthy: I meant while we train the students in future ideal age Group we need to select?

Gururaj Paramesha: First lets focus on workshop later v can think how v can procure kit for schools

Kollegala Sharma: @ Guru. Yes. I just mentioned it here because someone else might remember it when needed.  Old men can forget quickly. 🙂

Paramesha: Ha ha right sir

Kollegala Sharma: How do I reach the venue?  I will need to travel nearly 5 hours to reach the venue.  One draw back for people coming from outside bangalore.

Gururaj Paramesha: No problem we all here to share ideas

Yogish: Please send me the action items after the workshop. Now let’s list out the agenda or scope of this workshop.

+91 7 ……….. Worldwide Creative Computing concept is being introduced from elementary level, our pilot in Kodihalli and Hunasanahalli is for children in 3,4,5,6,7 th std. It is going pretty well. You are welcome to visit that school.I am typing the agenda will send it soon

Yogish: Thank you Kiran !

RaviRaj: Kiran🙏🏼  Kodihalli n hunasanahalli both in Bangalore district?

Gururaj Paramesha: Ys

Yogish: I thought Kanakapura district

+91 ……….: Near Kanakapura 70 Kms from BLR

Yogish: I mean kanakapura Tq

Krishnamurthy: Exactly where it is located

Kollegala Sharma: @ Kiran. Fine then. But I have a doubt.  I have been going around schools, private, government, urban and rural giving them talks on being innovative.  How we can train ourselves to be innovative and inventive.  Using kits should be in conjuction with the understanding of the process of innovation.  Otherwise, it would be like kids using lego sets to only create what they find in the manual.  I suggested 12-18 for that reason. I became interested in this workshop because this will help me drive home the point and engage students.

RaviRaj: Very good point sir….my students are really backward in computers…let this raspberry pi workshop give them a window towards computer literacy

Yogish: You guys want me to get up at 6:00 AM tomorrow to setup skype meeting ?For India time 7:00 PM?

Kollegala Sharma: We can reschedule to 9.00 pm. Kiran. Let Yogish sleep. Yogish. Good Night.:)

+91 7  …….: Sure 😇 9:00 is perfect

Yogish: 9pm is fine for me.

Gururaj Paramesha: 9pm Fine For me also

Yogish: Great !

Krishnamurthy: 9:00 is perfect for me too

Yogish: Thank you all !

Yogish added +91 9 ……. Just added Mr. Ananad in to this group. Ananad just registered in our online enrollment form.Anand, welcome to this group🙏. Please introduce yourself
