Yogish: Ignore the above link, that is online khan academy . KA Lite is correct one

Why don’t we go to school on every Saturday with Khan Academy  lite to govt school and teach science and maths using our laptops?. It’s better if we projector and screen  too to go every school.

I just installed ka-lite on my MacBook. It’s excellent and interactive. Kids will love this . No need of Internet. Only your 2 to 3 hours of time is required every week. We can make a batches like this

  1. Science teaching
  2. Maths teaching
  3. Spoken English and English grammar
  4. Technology like raspberry Pi, scratch, animation, creative computing etc
  5. Moral stories
  6. Environmental, tree planting, agriculture, green energy and cleanliness awareness to students.
  7. Motivational talk, Yoga, Meditation
  8. Sports and recreation activities
  9. Extracurricular activities
  10. Training to teachers on all the above topics

We are looking for volunteers.

Please let me know if anyone is interested (by the end of October ) to form a strong and self motivated team

Now Rajesh Rao already conducted 1 class in Ramanagar school. He has a plan to conduct 100 plus classes in various schools.

I think Rajesh Rao and Rakshith Raj have similar kind of agenda. Please send me your program details or writing in one or two pages. I can upload in our website, Facebook, YouTube to spread your programs with your contact details so that school will contact you directly. Let’s plan and go ahead as per the plan.

Suhas is our main contact for environmental activities. I will introduce a new person soon who is expert in organic farming. I need to talk to him first and to know whether his expertise  is in sync with our core values/mission before adding him in to this group.

Kollegala Sharma: 🙋🏻 Dont know about strength. But can assure about motivation

Yogish: Excellent Sharma sir 👍🙏

Kollegala Sharma: I have three agenda.

Teaching science in classroom – for teachers

Reading abilities – for students. But will need teachers help

How to be an inventor- for students. Can help create and manage Inventors clubs in schools.

Girish Mudigere: Excellent inputs.Lets discuss

Kollegala Sharma: For those interested in using arts in science teaching

  1. Translation techniques
  2. Writing for popular science and radio

Interested in joining hands with anyone for creating Kannada science videos and movies

I can be of help in all these.

Yogish: Our next event in pipeline is seedball program at Nanjaigarahalli  near bagepalli in Chikkaballapura district. We will be mainly discussing and coordinating in environmental team.

Let’s start coordination with:

  1. Suhas
  2. Manjula BV
  3. Nagesh TK
  4. Reddy sir

Hemanth Sharma: I am in too

Balakrishna Adiga: For those interested in using arts in science teaching

  1. Translation techniques
  2. Writing for popular science and radio

Interested in joining hands with anyone for creating Kannada science videos and movies

Balakrishna Adiga: 👆ಮೇಲಿನ ಮೂರು ವಿಷಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ನನ್ನ ಸೇವೆ ಲಭ್ಯವಿದೆ

Kollegala Sharma: Mine too

Mohammed Syed: Great ideas with good intentions. Appreciate the hard work. 👍🙏👏

  1. Sharma sir – for Translation techniques, Kannada science Videos and Popular science
  1. Hemanth Sharma – Creative computing, hardware and software
  1. Balakrishna Adiga sir – for Translation techniques, Kannada science Videos and Popular science

I will write down these activities and name of the lead in our website before we forget. Then we can plan as per the expertise.

Let’s start with simple program . For example teaching science lessons through animation both in English and Kannada.

We can make use of Sharma sir and Adiga sir’s expertise on science along with Hemanth sir and his son expertise on drawing and creative programming.

Very excited to know that talented teachers/professors engineer are ready to help to improve govt schools 👍

Bhanuprakash: I would like to teach students about preventive health especially boosting up the self esteem of poor kids in government schools .

I want to instill a sense of pride in simple living with less carbon foot print

kindly let me know when you do a programme I can join

9/25/16, 10:02 – Must Sep Bhanuprakash: Most of the education should be beyond the syllabus so that children understand the essence of stories n lessons much more than just memorisation.

We need teachers to be more educated about pride of mother tongue, chrome, religions, ecologically effective life styles, frugal living

We need to insist teachers to give correct picture of Indian history adding on to the syllabus as the books are advertisements of capitalistic marketing media to the next generation.🙏🏽

Do u have a storage group for health related discussions?

22 century medicine

1.Many costly Medicines can be substituted by simple cheaper medicines which will have a lesser economy trail and carbon foot print of research, manufacture, transport, branding, launch, marketing, gift, kickback.

  1. Many costly drugs can be substituted with natural remedies like sun bathing(vitD), fruits(antioxidants), raw vegetables (antacids, laxatives), turmeric(degenerative condition nutraceuticals-glucoseamine).

May be a subject of naturopathy in MBBS should help us decrease our capitalistic prescriptions to naturalistic decentralised health care

  1. Many surgeries can be avoided by effective medical management, good counseling to patients about complications and earlier identification of complications prevent prolonged hospitalisation, redo surgeries, morbidity and mortality

  1. Little extra time spent on healthy life style advise shall pay great dividends in preventing complications, recurrence, improving overall health and decreases or stop medicines, prevent life style diseases in family-society and world so that the ecological burden of diseases and pharmacological treatment decreases and we slow down climatic change, global warming, desertification

  1. Living a frugal life shall be more empathising to the disease persons eyes as the true fact is natural resources are dwindling and world population is increasing. So if one really cares to share the food , water, air with all the humans at least (we stopped worrying about animals, birds, insects, fungi, bacteria, virus, prions..) we should not expect to have more food, water, money, assets tomorrow than yesterday

Yogish: Thank you Dr. Bhanuprakash 👏👏

Kollegala Sharma: I fully agree with all these. But taking them to children as separate Top down lessons may not yield results. May  even be a difficult block to remove. Instead if I can talk on how our inhibitions pull us back during a discussion on Newton’s third law of motion, and how perseverance or.more force is required to overcome both lessons will stay in mind forever.  We need to empower teachers for such integrated learning.

Likewise teaching Kannada in science class in a non-obvious way or teaching science in Kannada classes in a non-obvious manner will strengthen understanding of both subjects. We need such integration too.

Bhanuprakash: 👍

Kollegala Sharma: I think along with Engage, Entertain, Explain, Evaluate, Empower we should add Integrate too. 5Es are not enough. The formula should be, 5E+i.

Core Team:

Yogish: Our next event in pipeline is seedball program at Nanjaigarahalli  near bagepalli in Chikkaballapura district. We will be mainly discussing and coordinating in environmental team.

Let’s start working with:

  1. Suhas
  2. Manjula BV
  3. Nagesh TK
  4. Ramakrishna Reddy sir

Feel free to join our environment group to participate in seedball program. We will send the program details soon

Tandavmurthy: Sir,this is not the right season for seed ball programme, mansoon season is appropriate

Yogish: Yes, I agree the best season is immediately after the mansoon

Hemanth Sharma: Whatever it is, our link is the work we do this give us motivation to continue, even if this activity gives 10% output we should try to continue as many different activities as possible , we are not loosing on learning anyway

Kaarthik: Though its not monsoon season …….v can do seed ball prog …..

Girish Mudigere: We need to conduct Parent Teacher meeting….. Any day is ok for me in JBN East

Mohammed Ghouse: @ GIRISH ! Thank you for the workshop , I was more impressed with the school . It was not less than any private school . How can we replicate such development ?

Girish Mudigere: Yes sir

Yogish: HM Pooja Obalappa is very dynamic person in that school. He is regularly approaching local donors NGO’s and CSR team to develop his school. People tend to give more and more to that school by seeing the school development and his active participation.

Girish Mudigere: V true .One volunteer per school can do wonders

Yogish: DS volunteers are already started registering for our October workshop on Raspberry Pi and creative computing.

Sept 24 Training(Changed as DS Technology Evangelists):

Yogish: I am not good at drawing. I need to take my daughter’s help to draw few scratches. She is super busy with her high school activities and homework. Let’s start simple panchatantra animation.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CxJm4Jitim4 – I think animation like this can be done by creating our own scratches.

Thank you Girish. I expected the soft copy of XL sheet that I sent. No problem I will tally this list with registration and will upload the list without their phone numbers and email id. It’s for our reference

Krishnamurthy: You can ping me separately for this I have a person who can do this job for you

Yogish: Wow ! . Excellent sir. You mean who can draw characters ?How many of us got Pi Kit ?

Krishnamurthy: Yes

Yogish: I just prepared the list of participants in XL w.r.t my original list. I will share it here.

There are 11 people communicated to me or in group saying that they will drop out due to some personal commitment.

12 did not show up and did not inform us. No problem, our additional  guests will occupy your seats. 😊

8 people who did not register attended. I guess 3 from Infosys team. Excellent and guests are welcome as we have always some buffer to accommodate few guest participants 😊.

Altogether 36 +1 (me) attended including Girish, Obalappa, Kiran and his  3 members team

Krishnamurthy: I will ask her to get enrolled for next session of Kiran’s

Yogish: Thank you Krishnamurthy sir !

Two from Mysore , two from Tumkur and one from Kolar attended. No one came from Mandya, Ramanagar, and Chikkaballapura.

Please correct me if my list is wrong

Krishnamurthy: Ramnagar – SR patil sir attended

Yogish: Oh yes. RAJASHEKHAR S PATIL right ?

Krishnamurthy: I guess he is same.. Harish is from kortagere near Tumkur

Yogish: Actually Shambu sir from Kolar attended. I forgot

Krishnamurthy: Check actual attendees list from scan copy

Yogish: 2 from Mysore, 2 from Tumkur 2 from Kolar and 1 from Ramnagar – excellent 👍

Yes I checked the scan copy. Shivashankar G and Thayanna M are from Ramanagar. So 3 from Ramanagar

Altogether 9 are from outside the Bangalore

Girish Mudigere: Thank you Yogish.Hemant’s son is ready to help

Yogish: Great !. Let’s write down the names and expertise first. Then we can have some plan of actions.

Girish Mudigere: Yes

Girish Mudigere: I posted few of your comments too in DSS…..fb group

Kindly tag yourselves if possible

Yogish: Our next event is in pipeline is seedball program at Nanjaigarahalli  near bagepalli in Chikkaballapura district. We will be mainly discussing and coordinating in environmental team.

As we agreed  let’s not dissolve this group. We can keep this group for the next raspberry Pi  event or for any technical or IT related discussions.

Thank you Kiran and All 🙏

Kiran changed the subject from “DS Workshop Sept24” to “DS Technology Evangelists”

Hemanth Sharma: Thanks sir, for encouragement👍

I suggest to change it to technical gp or something similar

Kollegala Sharma: 👍

Kiran: How’s this Name ?

Kollegala Sharma: Great. I once used this word in a National Seminar at NIAS Bangalore and got brick-bats! I proposed that we need science and technology evangelists! But people took the word for its literal.meaning. I still stand by my use of the word.

We also  need Science and Tech icons. NRN just transformed into business icon from being tech icon. Our loss.☹

Yogish: Excellent Kiran !

We are looking for  Kiran’s help for this team for any technical or software/hardware consultations. 🙏

Kiran: Why our loss.. He has groomed youngsters like me to take things further 😉 😉

Gururaj Paramesha: We want more kirans one Kiran can’t transfer everything..we have to inspire our younger generations especially from rural population…

Yogish: More Gururaj and Girish  too  😊

Kollegala Sharma: 👍

Hemanth Sharma: Wow nice name👍

Girish Mudigere: Sure Kirans help we find more

Girish Mudigere: Kiran’s

DS should find few coordinators in each taluk place ….175 taluks

Kiran added +91 70  ……..

Added Rajeev Jha passionate volunteer who is also a Techie Linux expert you can ask any question to him

Yogish: Welcome Rajeev Jha 💐🙏

Kiran: He took the scratch session yesterday

Girish Mudigere: Welcome Sir

+91 70  …..: Hello everyone!!

Hemanth Sharma: Wow nice sir, welcome rajiv to this group

Kiran: Rajeev has setup Scratch in Kodihalli school in 6 Desktops it is now being used by 200 primary school children

Kiran: On Ubuntu

Girish Mudigere: Excellent ….lets improve all nearby GS

Hemanth Sharma: Ubuntu is nice os having may versions but very low resource requirement can be setup through pen drive, that was the reason I tried with Ubuntu, but as raspbian is directly supporter by raspberry organization I changed to Raspbian anyway all are linux versions so software app and learning process most likely will be compatible

Kiran: Rajeev can help you use ubuntu on Raspberry Pi now he is playing around with one.

+91 70  …….: Yeah let me know any ways I can help – I have been using Linux for past 5 years now

Kiran: Rajeev can train more DS volunteers on ubuntu tips and tricks. Gururaj, would you like to take it forward. I can lend space in my Garage with reqd infrastructure

+91 704 ……..: Oh that would be actually wonderful

Krishnamurthy: Kiran sir, Please include in next class an hand’s on for installing Ubuntu along with Raspberry Pi to run on Schools machines where already Windows installed and are suffering due to poor maintainance

Krishnamurthy: We can train with scratch and leave it working for same school teachers to take on further

Rajiv Ji your robot program analogy of becoming robot yourself was very good on how a wrong program behaves when it is instructions are wrong

Kiran: I will send one page instructions to do it. They can call me or Rajeev if there is any issue. Workshop will be used to primarily to excite and show possibilities. It will not be effective to go in depth on technical things. Since teachers will come with varied backgrounds.

Krishnamurthy: Yeah this is possible

Kiran: 👍🏽

Kollegala Sharma: Ubuntu is the default os in Government schools and many teachers have been trained in it. So using it in schools for pi and scratch will not be difficult and  implementation will be easy.

Hemanth Sharma: Very good information sir, this will be nice to have common os for all instructions. As os can be installed on pen drive we can have common platform on laptop also to teach scratch and sonic pi I believe. No change in already installed os in laptop neede. Rajeev to concur

Girish Mudigere: We arrange in  a nearby school sir

Gururaj Paramesha: Yes true..we want more open source tool users…since school college days we were forced to do programming on windows platform…

Kollegala Sharma: Rajeev. Open invite to Mysore/Sargur.

Shambhulingaiah: I request you all to come to kolar…

Girish Mudigere: Excellent and team work progressing

Gururaj Paramesha: Sure we will travel… but we want each one of you to bcom master trainer…thats the vision of Kiranji..

Gururaj Paramesha: So you can organise and train other kids n teachers…

Shambhulingaiah: Yeah…sure sir…i already started thinking in that direction…we need your kind support…

+91 704 ….: Definitely I am planning to visit more schools in the future. I want to understand more about the context in which government schools operate

Kollegala Sharma: Correction. Open invitation to be with me when I train other prospective trainers. Guru. Is that OK?

Kiran: Including you Guru, when you getting your Raspberry Pi 😉

Gururaj Paramesha: Guruji you are my mentor…will come to you only when I Raspberry Pi…

Kollegala Sharma: I have many teacher friends who have TVs but no computers at home. Raspberry will be great help. I am going to get my pi next week and will flaunt it before I start using it. The size and portability, if nothing else, will draw more people to it.

Kiran: Handy anyone seen digitalgreen.org Has anyone seen ?

Kollegala Sharma: Just now, after you referred. But had heard of BAIF work earlier

Gururaj Paramesha: Free solutions for farmers…

Kiran: We can promote this in villages parents of school children can see them at home using Raspberry Pi

Kiran: Even black & white TVInstead of crime news 🙈

Gururaj Paramesha: Excellent but dont you think Internet is required

Kiran: We give them offline

Kollegala Sharma: What we are attempting is not new in intentions or needs. But tools, and approach are different and I jope the efficiency as well. As Kiran said yesterday, assessing all interventions is the challenge. The distributed structure of DS.org, could be an advantage in this respect.

Gururaj Paramesha: Excellent thought.. lets take Khan Academy videos also to rural village children who can aspire to become what they really want to bcom

Kiran: Get started guru take to one school next week I will support you. Then others will follow you

Kollegala Sharma: 👍 Kiran

Kiran: I am inspired by Shukla Bose of Parikrma School.. she says one child at a time..Now she educates about 2000

Krishnamurthy: Shambu sir if required you can attend next session as well and keep attending till we learn thoroughly,  but sooner or later , we have to slowly start working independently in our respective areas

Kiran: Being from Calcutta she educates slum children of BANGALORE in ICSE syllabus and in English

Girish Mudigere: Excellent discussions and action point’s

Yogish: We can install khan academy light and offline scratch. It should be enough for kids move forward. Low cost , portable and virus free feature of raspberry Pi is very attractive. A TV is good enough to conduct interactive classes.

Hemanth Sharma: Will it work with the resources pi 3 have. Nearly everything including installation depend on Internet. Just asking

Kollegala Sharma: Do you have a LCD/LED tv at home, but no computer?

No problem. You can put together your own computer that uses your TV as a monitor. It can also be a media player llaying movies on tv or cknnect to internet. Interested?

If we have at least 10 persons, we can learn to do this using Raspberry pi.  Within about 4000 rupees you can do this. If you have a tv in school carry this computer in your purse or pocket and operate it using your smartphone.

How many are interested?

Kollegala Sharma: This is the message I posted to my teachers. Will try myself and if need get help from other evangelists😊

Hemanth Sharma: 👍

Yogish: You need Internet connection only in the beginning to install all the offline contents. Then no need of Internet. Hardware+software  projects are very exciting, especially for kids science fair projects.

Kiran: I agree we can clone SD Card and give them

Kollegala Sharma: Kiran this support would be great help. It is cost effective too. 👍

Kiran: When would you like to start ?

Hemanth Sharma: I can support this in JBN area…if SD card is provided

Kollegala Sharma: Will do in HDKOTE and Nanjangud

Kiran: Yes it works offline even Noobs offline is availableHemanth I will give you full KT on this you can clone yourself are you free today late evening?

Hemanth Sharma: I know about it I did installation offline but additional application need internet. Khan academy too need internet. No body need just os people are more interested in app and that need change over time… offline content too expire too soon maybe making a internet connection in  school help if cost can be controlled. Yes I am let me know where we can meet

+91 704……….: I believe internet connection is important in schools and compared to the benefits it provides, I don’t think internet is costly even compared to the other resources used in the schools

Kiran: 703, 1st B Main Road,

2nd Phase, 7th Block , Banashankari 3rd Stage

Bangalore – 85

GPS Coordinates put this on Google Maps : 12º 55′ 57″ N,  77º 32′ 36″ E

I agree till we get we need to get moving on..

Hemanth Sharma: I have MSD card reader NOOBs for Raspbian. But we should be clear what everyone should install. Do we need anything else

I will meet you let me know the time

Kiran: Where do you stay ?

Hemanth Sharma: Malleshpalya

Kiran: Sure will let you know when we meet

Yogish: I believe Airtel, Jio, and BSNL is giving free unlimited data for next 3 months. Just need wifi hotspot device. Teachers and students will get to know the importance of Internet in 3 months of promotional period.

Kollegala Sharma: True. But given the negative impression on the use of technology, institutional support will be too much to expect. But once teachers get the taste of its power, they will not hesitate to use a mobile internet connection for this. Offline is always helpful in the remote villages that I go.

Hemanth Sharma: 👍

Yogish: Yes, teachers has to get the taste of Internet power in class rooms

Kiran: Who will bell the Cat ? Prabhu we discussed ..can we take it further ..We can take this offline

We can not expect mass deployment we have to handhold and make it happen

Kiran: I am 20 KMs Away from you, you let me know when you can come I don’t have any plan today.Pl bring your Son too 😊

Kollegala Sharma: Kiran. Lets start offline. It will then promote itself online.  One thing I have noticed with regard to ITEs in schools is excessive control on hardware. Pi will free teachers from that. Another reason for my excitement and asking to go offline for the beginning.

Yogish: Reliance Jio advertisement , says ‘Now data is cheaper than atta’ 😄

Kollegala Sharma: For ‘missed call’ philosophy even a rupee is a fortune😀

Kiran: Sir even with in our professional organisation we don’t get free access to Internet we can start in pockets and make it work. Each of us have some connects to influence Govt machinery. BSNL in particular

Yogish: Yes the best solution in the beginning is go for offline Pi

Kiran: 👍🏽 Hemanth Can you come by 4:00 PM

Hemanth Sharma: Will be happy to bring my son but he has having midterm exam so do not want to disturb his studies but I wouldn’t want to take his  decision either will talk to him, will come back to you with time I can be there

Hemanth Sharma: Will come back soon

Yogish: DS Technology Evangelists is flying now along with Scratch. All are in good spirit. Keep up the good work !👍

Kollegala Sharma: High without ‘spirit’😀 pun intended. Yogish. Not going to bed?

Hemanth Sharma: I will be out of my house by 3pm probably reach there by 4 or little late…my son will not be there this time around probably you will be there on whatsapp during this time in case I need guidance to reach your house

Surendra Poojari: (file attached)

Girish Mudigere: Awesome sir

Kiran: Yes I will be

Girish Mudigere: 😊👍🙏

Kiran: Gururaj would you like to join us ? We can Hack Linux together..

Kollegala Sharma: I didnt know i can use it with phone. Thanks Kiran

+91 70  …….: Actually you can just connect internet on one computer and share it with all others through Ethernet.Just like in wimdows

Kollegala Sharma: So that is one more gadget I need

I wish we had a rolling screen that needs no big UPS. Then, I can carry the roll under my arm, a raspberry, a dongle or phone for internet, a rollable key board, and set up a smart class in any jungle. Right now monitor and power are the Achilles heel in my dreams.

Kiran: Don’t hurry let us know the need we will suggest cost effective solution. We have bigger issue 3G signal 😒in remote villages

Kollegala Sharma: Yes.

Kiran: In jungle solar powered offline Raspberry Pi with 19 inch LED is cost effective (Internet is still far away)

Kollegala Sharma: To be a real evangelist, I need to travel light. Pick up a kit, go, set up on a street side, and start presenting ideas!

I think right now this my dream is science fiction!

Kiran: 😇

Kollegala Sharma: Yes. That was the reason for my participation in 24 workshop.

Kiran: Gururaj can get you world’s slimmest Netbook/laptop from HP 😉with good discount

Kollegala Sharma: Can I use powerbanks to power pi?

Kiran: Yes, But monitor?

Kiran: 👌🏼

Hemanth Sharma: Today time spent with kiran sir, lot of information received from him and way they exploring things in Infosys I am very impressed…practical solution to a lot of issues discussed…thanks sir will treasure this meeting with you. Thanks a lot

Gururaj Paramesha: 👌really you are lucky hemanth..in todays world who will teach all these things for free of cost…

Yogish: Thank you Kiran for your tireless work to share the knowledge with our volunteers. Technology can play major role in transforming schools. We are in need of many volunteers like Kiran. I think we are in right direction To prepare minimum of 10 Kiran’s from our group. 👍🙏

Kiran: 10 is a good No, I see Yogish ahead at 1st spot  .. let’s track the progress the participants of 24th workshop I can lend any help to them in taking this farword.

Girish Mudigere: 😊👍🙏

Yogish: DS volunteers already started registering for our October workshop

Workshop on Creative Computing using Scratch on Raspberry Pi – October

Website is really helping me to interact with people, planning and organize for the events.

Krishnamurthy: Don’t get misled they talk about 4G as free data but they don’t have towers every where, also you need 4g compatible device as well..think over it

Girish Mudigere: Lets try few PTM too

Yogish: Agree. 4G is not there everywhere. But I have used my 4G hotspot device in Bangalore and Mangalore everywhere. I used to get an average speed of 12mbps. In some places it went up to 25mbps. Schools in Mangalore and Bangalore can benefit now.
