Core:

Kollegala Sharma: There are Private schools which provide food to students. Some provide freely and some on payment. These schools have good admissions. One Private school chain has made it a policy. The question we need to ask is, when the same facility is available in *all* government schools, why is it that admissions are going down? This is puzzling. I have also seen that quality of teaching is not any better in these private schools (especially in semi-urban towns) and we know for certainty they  indulge in exam malpractices to get results.  Yet their admissions have not suffered. If we compare two such private schools again there is little value addition that can explain the rush for one.  The only thing different is medium of instruction. I wont call it a quality parameter, but are parents cinsidering the medium and the results as the only parameters?

What is it that parents want from a school? Is there any demographic study anywhere?

Girish Mudigere: Ownership missing Sir. We rename with areas name……it makes difference

Yogish: RTE act is also playing major role. Many students are going to private school because of this. Govt indirectly helping them with RTE. this is one of the comment I got from SDMC members my Kodikal school.

+91 7  ………: I too agree

Yogish: As Girish said private school take ownership of their school, they arrange school buses to take govt school kids to their school at free of cost. Now mid day meal and free books available in private aided school too. Teachers are accountability in private school if results are bad.

+91 9 …….: Rte is not a alternate method of supporting poor students.

Yogish: Govt is showing exit door from govt school using RTE, obviously children will use this door and join private schools.

I am not against RTE, but that need to have some modification to make sure that children are not leaving govt school and join private schools

Kollegala Sharma: True. Also if you notice in the urban government schools that you have in focus, the average age of teachers would be (I am guestimating from my experience)  above 45 or 50 for whom there is little motivation to do further. There may be that proverbial 20% who do but that is not sufficient.

Look at the above news. Why not teach English as a language properly. It will solve a lot of problems.

Except IT, performance of students from Karnataka govt schools and universities in National level competitive exams (JEE, NET, AIPMT etc.) is not comparable. One study shows Univ of Bang figuring not even among the top 50 performers. North Indians have an advantage of using Hindi, which we lack. So focusing on teaching English and Kannada properly is a must.

I have been receiving invitatiins from different groups, schools to help them with Oduva Kale like prigramme. I started it thinking that the problem is only in the schools which I have been visiting for the past few years. But it appears to be a state-wide phenomenon.

I won’t say which medium, but we need to strengthen language learning. And urgently.

+91 9  …….: Why should not we think that Govt is fecilitating our students for a better education on par with other student in private good schools ,,,,,,,,

Kollegala Sharma: Government is facilitating. Issue is not in planning. Midday meals was a great idea. It is being copied. Inspite of this we have low admissions.

+91 9 …..: Sir! We have a rotation and non commiting teachers at GOVT schools…….pls don’t feel bad this is the gerneral feeling among people

Kollegala Sharma: No. That should never be the problem. Dont we have govt departments where officials are transferred regularly? Banks work well inspite of transfers. Why not schools?

Yogish: We discussed about English language many times in this group , but many of us don’t like to discuss about it. Therefore we created separate group for that to discuss. I too dropped talking about English and decided to go with the flow.

We have seen so many success story from who adopted the school and started teaching English. I mean they did not change the curriculum. They are making sure that students are fluent in English when they are out of 5th grade or 7th grade. Unfortunately we are very stubborn on local language.

Yogish: I agree that kids has to learn in mother tongue at initial stages. As per the scientific evidence kids can learn 11 languages in their early ages. Along with local languages why don’t we teach them English, Japanese, French or Mandarin  and prepare them to compete in global world ?. Why do we hate English ?.

I fully understand the NMMO concept and I fully support for it, but I don’t understand the language policy.Good point Nagesh Sir

Nagesh TK: Sure sir if we teach English as a one language parents will come to ours schools sir

Yogish: Today we are at 200. Just 56 less to reach max numbers allowed by whatsup. Let’s not have a fear of failure. Let’s not have a fear of people leaving the group. We are looking for strong, self motivated  volunteers with spirit of volunteerism. Let’s do the right things to develop government schools👍

Girish : 🙂🙏 If comes down to 20 still of added value

Nagesh TK: 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻

Kollegala Sharma: 👍There is lot of work to be done to take the concept across Karnataka. We need volunteers everywhere for all the three things we feel can improve schools.

Yogish: Just called Muralidhar and requested him to stop the water purifier project because it is now sanctioned by government. He said that he will keep the unit ready in case if any school is requesting the unit. Let’s follow up with the govt and local leaders until it is fully installed in Nanjaigaranahalli

HM Sunitha: 👍🙏

Krishnamurthy: We can take rural schools as challenge to improve Govt schools as there is no alternative to govt schools / very less competition with Pvt schools

Nagesh TK: 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻

Kollegala Sharma: Yes.I have a request. I need a team of volunteers in Mysore are nearby who can help me in implementation of Oduva Kale programme. We can collectively develop the agenda and try implementation. Alone it is difficult for me to provide the consistent thrust the goal requires. Any takers? Youngsters are most welcome as it involves a lot of travelling week after week.

Krishnamurthy: Sharmaji – Please take help of my sister ( Mrs Bharthi) who works @ Mallupura govt School depending on availability of time. She is in this group already. You can also take help of Mrs Uma who is SDMC member in Maharaja school in Mysore

Uma.vcf (file attached)

Bharati Tab.vcf (file attached)

Kollegala Sharma: Thanks. Will get in touch with them.

Krishnamurthy: Sharmaji – since both are working women they may have very little time at their disposal. But thru them you can build further network

Kollegala Sharma: Yes 😀

PKK Jayalaxmi Gowda: This should be used positively to the growth. As new people coming to new place will bring in new ideas and creativity..Also agree English should be thought as a language and after early years, one cannot forget the language with other language being introduced. Government and people should give a thought on this..

Girish Mudigere: Excellent inputs.Excellent approach
