Group Discussion – May 05 2016

Part1

Yogish: It will look nice if you send the details as mentioned above including logo, phone number, address, weblink and email id
Kollegala Sharma: Yesterday’s discussiin was encouraging. If we think of curriculum as only a guideline, pedagogy can be modified to help learn the concepts. If a student identifies a pendulum in a clock and not in a swinging cricket bat, then the learning is only half done.

I personally believe that with some innovative methods the same curriculum can be delivered as concept based learning. Our efforts at Vijnana Vedike Karnataka is the same. As I said in a previous post, Developschools is in first stage of strengthening infra. We need to evolve more to reach that third stage.

We need not change syllabus, but only change learning methods ( no not teaching methods. Philosophically I feel there is no teacher without a learner).

Linnet D Silva: We don’t have expertise to think of the syllabus. We can comment on what’s available. The problem is more on executing that. It’s in administration that great gap is found.

Jayalaxmi Gowda: Well said Sharma sir. That was my intention as well, we don’t need to change syllabus, we need to change the way it is thought and the mindset. And that can be done by any teacher at any level.

Gururaj Paramesha: Some difficult concepts still taught in chalk n talk method in most of the government schools

Praveen: Lack of infrastructure is a challenge I have seen for some 6 years now, I can confidently say now that is not a problem over which I will break my head. There are more serious ones to be addressed.. Lack of teachers to start with

Gururaj Paramesha: Yes lack of te teAchers. Now 16 thousand teachers will be recruited in next few years govt as aporoved. Now the problem is no one is willing to join 2 years B.Ed course. Out of 100 B.Ed trainees only 10 percent are science teachers rest or Arts teachers

Kollegala Sharma: I feel IT can be only enabling resource for Primary teaching. A creative facilitator can always use available resources to bring home the concepts. This needs a change in the mindset, a bit of motivation, and of course self esteem. Historically what we call as difficult concepts develped from simple questions from around our surroundings. It should not be difficult to ask the same questions and prepare our mind with the available knowledge to understand the basic principles which we term as concepts. More than infrastructure, we need to be ready to integrate different subjects in the classroom. Kannada teacher talking about a scientist for an essay, for example, would help those interested in learning literature to write a poem about the scientist and thus get interested in science too. Or a science teacher can recite a poem on atom. There are such creative efforts going on. Documenting them at one place like mangalorelink.com/school can help others also to use and follow. I see a great resource in our website. Q&A is only one.

But first let us focus on the first agenda. Make schools appear as places for visiting. Provide basic necessities like water and stationery so that children feel happy. After this we can think of creating creative facilitators.

Yogish: I think our website reached maximum menus now. No more menus will be added. I think we don’t want to add more menus to clutter our website. Of course we can continue to add quality materials under each menu whenever someone in the group contribute. – just for your info

Gururaj Paramesha: Mysore Division Teachers or Volunteers can we have online meeting?

5/4/16, 22:26 – MUST MCE Yogish: Within a month school re opens. Our main focus should be :

1. Identify potential drop out students for the next academic year. Encourage parents and students to continue.

2. Increase the next academic (June 1) admission in to all the govt schools at least by 2 or 3%

3. Plant trees in every govt school during this monsoon season and take care of the tree until it grows.

Let’s share you ideas please

Gururaj Paramesha: a) Less enrollment schools nearby to your residential

b) Infrastructure issue related schools near to your location or any known schools where we get easy access to discuss with the SDMC

c) June 5th is world Environmental Day can we supply saplings to schools by June 1st by our end via Range Forest Officers from each district. Tell our core agenda ask them to visit our website. Please close this task by this week

Next week you take the action part on how many government schools where they have place to plant the saplings. May month is action month everyone who are in this group should share a pic of a government school that they have visited and their requirement. we have 107 members in that four are NRIs

Girish Mudigere: Lokesh Sir admission improvement ge neevu nimma team maadirurlva methods tilisi …..itvwill be very useful in other places

Gururaj Paramesha: Lokesh Sir I will call you and discuss

Lokesh Alambuda: 24×7 ಗಂಟೆಯೂ ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಬಹುದು

Girish Mudigere: Sri….thanks for above…..lets bring all such pass outs in an virtual platform to help their government schools ….lets keep track of above student too Do her contact details available or can we try? Getting contacts of old students and inviting them to their schools. Millions of such old students are willing to help their school ….they don’t know method. Money is not required from them. Their interaction is sufficient to that school to grow

Gururaj Paramesha: Mysore Division, Bangalore Division, Gulbarga Division, Mysuru, Bengaluru, Belagavi Divisions

Girish Mudigere: Guru sir…..we should go personally ….lets try step by step

Sri Harsha: Yogish. Our website just looks wonderful now..with menu cards and new layout. Great work

Samiulla: We r just focussing on conceptual or procedural knowledge instead of meta cognitive knowledge. If a simple divergent question comes. , our students are not able to answer them, ncf -2005 stresses knowledge beyond the text or classrooms, but practically we are far from this concept. We always expect lesson end question for examination. Follow up system isn’t there in our schools. Hardly once or twice only the higher officer visits Schools. Each officer has to adopt ten schools and work continuously for there improvement in a whole year. If quality comes , admissions increase, n dropouts automatically decrease.

Girish Mudigere: Is it a good idea to start new group to discuss only on academics?

Because our main motto is improving admissions and stop dropouts. I don’t know it helps or team suffers

Girish Mudigere: We shall try….one more which we discussed earlier Move all silent members to info team. Because they leave group when academics is more!!!

Sri Harsha: This is where ideas get generated. We should not stop the flow of ideas..I am quiet sure people who are in this group are ok to have some ideas being discussed..if one or two of them leave it would be that they have some priorities. Yes sir..but before having actions we should have ideas to act upon..it’s extremely nice to see so many inputs coming up from teachers. I agree with Yogish..lets keep it here..always a spirit of involvement

Yogish: Girish, Harsha we have to deliver 1 or 2 projects by first week of June instead of focusing to create new group or to worry about people leaving.

Girish Mudigere: Lets narrow down……our discussion to improvement of schools and quality

Yogish: Yes I agree. Our discussions should be only for school improvements. May be 5 to 10% discussions will move away from our main focus which is normal I guess. We can immediately bring them back to main focus instead of commenting on out of focus topic. I think most of us know about our focus.

Kollegala Sharma: @Girish. We cant dissociate students, teachers, academics and school environs when talking of development. All need to be addressed. Just that needs may be varied in different schools.

Since all these cant be achievdd in one go, we need to advance step by step. The first is to identify schools, help them with infrastructure. Then academics can be addressed.

Alternatively, linking up schools with NGOs like SVYM which are addressing academics will help us keep focus and also address other relevant issues.

Girish Mudigere: added MUST Bailahongla Manjunath2 and HM Sunitha. Welcome Sunitha, Siddappa Malavalli and welcome back Manjunath with different number

Next two months lets focus more discussion on admission improvement and respect kids

Siddappa Malavalli: Today I got information about Right to education Act that, private school associations not agreed to provide 25% of seats as fixed by the government in Mysore is it necessary ..?Education is leading by private, but government is sited on observer seat…😢

Everyone is looking the above especially the people’s from EWS means economically weaker section, our motto is same , government is to sit in Draiver seat….gradually it will reach everyone my opinion is not in favour of poor,. Who will looking to join their children to high profile institutions should promise…

Part 2

Girish Mudigere: Gururaj sir dream is to make Government schools high profile and people demand government schools in next 10 years

Linnet D Silva: I hope development of India lies in creating right schools For all its citizens and not standardised schools for rich and poor differently. Education is not left to choose It’s every child’s right to have quality education. World in the north hemisphere has realized it and have better direction. India’s government school are needing right direction. If teachers are motivated in right sense good can come very fast. I feel their priorities need change.

Girish Mudigere: Development of whole world*……lets take it forward – Our responsibility

Guru Poornima: Big vision, big impact positively-Very true

Siddappa Malavalli: Anyone please suggest “common education system” in our country.

Girish Mudigere: Siddappa sir…first and foremost is improvement of existing schools. Lets start cleaning and beautifying anganawadis

Linnet D Silva: Of course at least basic education.Omg. That’s another story.

Siddappa Malavalli: I vl join my hands. I heard about 3 percent of schools have been closed after introduction of mid day meal due to untouchablity in rural area in media discussion with statistics.

Linnet D Silva: I have observed children said health and attendance has improved.

Siddappa Malavalli: When government is providing Rs:204 for NAREGA how the government will expect the educated people will work for even less…?? I formed one team… Maybe . But in many areas I seen from.very near they are taken home food grains and other home needs from Anganavadi, this is very same. Administrative peoples is still sleeping even after complaint is Lodge, this is same on the administration too…

Guru Poornima: Its all because of social problems, which has great impact on education… We will have to create awareness too. ಸಿದ್ದಪ್ಪ ಅವರೆ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡೋಣ

Karthik: The mind set of teacher can make any changes desired. We need this group with involving all taluks teachers, One good teacher interested in change. Frame certain objectives to be done immediately

Shivaprakash T: Dedicated teachers face lot of problems in implementing effective teaching. Especially in primary schools dept wont allow teachers to teach.

Karthik: There are good no.of teacher s striving for changes. Students motivating is greatest power, Which gives strength from parents and inturn society. Patience and determination gives more strength, Let’s not lose hope and become pessimists

Girish Mudigere: Shiva sir excellent point

Chaya Chandra Acharya: We find one better school based on division done above and keenly implement idea with the support of school and move forward. By the by we discussed this in our meeting in Bangalore recently otherwise it takes lot of time to understand. First we have to design a workable model. : It is universal law, not only teachers. Honest person suffers under dishonest people

Ganesh Bhat: Appreciated

Karthik: If it didn’t it is science trial and error: Let’s us have goals. But be satisfied by what ever we can do, Let’s chatout ideas based on regions: Let’s hope for better society

Guru Poornima: Let us not compromise for wrong reasons anywhere

Kollegala Sharma: Goals: Short term immediate. Provide basic necessities (water, notebooks)

Midterm -1. IT infrastructure, other infrastructure

2. Empowerment of teachers with training and assistance in new pedagogy development

Long term- value based HR and skill development of students. Can we think of something like this?

Karthik: Im ready to strive with my colleagues in kolar, Can we include toilet in short term. Because no proper toilets in my school and college, where 1000 girls studym Taluk head quarters, Let’s try to improve the quality

Girish Mudigere: Breakfast, water, rest rooms, basic cloths, books ………..projector, computer……….Garden, buses……Academic difficulties and subjects solution methodology ……..USA schools ……etc etc. Lets set priorities for our discussions and try to obtain solutions and implementation ….

TEAM….KINDLY FOCUS ON PRIORITIES ….EVERY MINUTE US VALUABLE

Girish Mudigere added Pruthvi Shri. Ramashetty HM Allur Hassan

Lokesh Alambuda: ಶಾಲಾಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯನ್ನೂ ಗಟ್ಟಿಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು

Renni D’souza: Appreciated…

HM Sunitha: Yes Root of the work area should be strong and dedicated

Md Ali Shaikh: there is any ngo to help private Body aided schools. actually i want to install a math lab in school….Belagavi sir

Girish Mudigere: Excellent ….Agasthya helped earlier ….we will contact

Md Ali Shaikh: please …. If any source i get it ll b very helpful for me…. Local bodies r not active in these kind of works

Sri Harsha: A request to all/anyone who can help..

We want to get some data(to approach John Deere) to make them understand why we are trying to do this..basic amenities for example..can someone provide me data on government schools available without basic necessities..example 4/10 schools lack this facility..this is one of the reasons of not having enrolment.. surveys or census from our state government?? Feel free to msg me in private as well if you feel Comfortable. Can you forward the report to me yogi Sh if you have…Sreeharsha.n.sagar@gmail.com

Yogish: I think there few reports available on the web regarding drinking water and sanitation issues in school, which was surveyed by some NGO’s . Do you want another report created by our teachers?

Girish Mudigere: Sri Harsha is looking to categorize requirements and leave option to John Deere to choose most needy thongs for bunch of our listed schools

Sri Harsha: By the way..excellent work on the website..multiplies the motivation of the team when someone so voluntarily does such good things.thank you yogish..
